The new airport in Dubai is all set to welcome passengers from the coming month following the nod offered by the General Civil Aviation Authority.
The regulator documented in a letter that the airport Al Maktoum International in Dubai World Central has successfully met all the requirements and can begin passenger handling from October, 27. The statement has been issued by Dubai Airports on Monday. The news was expected from a long time with Wizzair, a Hungarian budget airline and Nasair, a carrier from Saudi Arabia getting ready to begin their service from the new airport in the Jebel Ali district in Dubai on the said date. The approval is the final stage in introducing the largest airport in Dubai, a part of huge World Central Residential, Logistics, and Commercial complex in Dubai.
The airport that has been dealing with only cargo flights since June 2010 has finally planned to consists of five runaways along with the capacity of moving 160 million passengers and cargo of 12 million tonnes each year. The International Airport in Dubai welcomed around 5.3 million people in July, which witnessed a 6.1 per cent increase from the same month figure of the previous year as it went onto become the second busiest airport in the world following the Heathrow Airport in London.
The passenger count in the Heathrow airport also increased by 5.5 per cent standing at 6.9 million. The Dubai World Central's passenger terminal will be able to handle around 7 millions passengers per year. The expectation is to finally take over the operations from Dubai International. According to the Vice President, Jamal Zaal of Airside operations at Dubai Airports, the opening of the new airport is a critical step that is most welcome in getting the DWC terminal ready for operations with full passengers.
According to Dubai Airports, it would like to conduct some tests on the new terminal, prior to its opening. The tests will be conducted over around 1,000 members launching a test run for identifying the improvement areas in the new terminal. Prior to this, the employees will be conducting a test of the new facility as a rehearsal to the public trials. Moreover, Dubai Airports also mentioned that it enjoyed an overwhelming support from the volunteers in the campaign of trial recruitment that crossed the maximum limit of subscription within 48 hours. According to Dubai Airport's Chief Executive, Paul Griffiths, the support that came from the volunteers was huge that proved the passion towards aviation for people in Dubai.
