5 common mistakes tourists, visitors to UAE make

Tourists and visitors often cite ignorance of law as an excuse to ignore UAE norms and moral codes

999 Magazine, the official English monthly of the UAE’s Ministry of Interior reports that tourists and visitors who visit UAE disregard norms and moral codes. An internationally followed legal principle suggests that people who are unaware of law can not escape liability merely because they were unaware of it.

As per the magazine the 10 common blunders which tourists, knowingly or unknowingly, commit are:

1) Driving under the influence of alcohol

2)Taking pictures of strangers

3) Sunbathing in insufficient clothing

4) Wearing disrespectful clothing

5) Displaying of affection publicly

Editor-in-Chief of 999, Lt Colonel Awadh Saleh Al Kindi, suggests that UAE has taken a worldwide lead by creating the Law Respect Culture Bureau which is a division of the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior, with aims to increase legal consciousness and insert a law-respecting culture among community members of all age groups The agency reaches its targets by creating social culture amongst community members on the need to respect both written and unwritten laws Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, suggests that ignoring the law is a very common cause of legal violations, thus making it necessary to establish an agency who will deliver legal messages in an understandable and simple way

Director-General of Dubai, Dr. Jamal Hussein Al Sumaiti, explains the difference between an individuals right to freedom of expression, their duty to ensure others’ respect. He explained this by suggesting that it is a persons right to criticize a person or institution, but it is not right to swear or defame. Al Kindi suggests that through the available resources, tourists and visitors should know about the customs, and norms of UAE before they arrive in the country. He advised visitors to respect the right to freedom of others at all times. The law and culture of UAE is created to protect and respect everyone regardless of faith or nationality. inappropriate behavior can lead to fines, imprisonment and deportation.
